Rivetting instructions for Belt decorations Bortenstecker 13th century Replica from Fuchsenhof Hoard Austria:
Wire pins on back of belt decoration are longer than required to make it easier to insert through a prepared hole in belt. When using thinner leather, trim wires to about 1mm above surface after inserting.
Use small hammer and if available also a punch. Place belt upside down with wire ends sticking up on a hard enough surface e.g. wood, perhaps hammering is necessary from both sides until a small head forms on the end of the wire pin, which holds the wire pins in place, when it has become wider than the hole.
